It is one of the markets located within the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem. It extends from north to south. Its northern entrance is a triumphal arch consisting of three large arches; In the middle of the market is a large and beautiful water fountain known as the "Bimaristan Fountain".

The history of this market dates back to the Ottoman era; It was built in 1902 by the Greek Archimandrite (Aftimos); Hence its name.

Although all the markets in the Old City are distinguished by their antiquity and extension in the depth of history, some markets are considered newly established, such as the Aftimos market, which is considered the most recent market in ancient Jerusalem. This market was built in the European style by the archimandrite The Greek, Avtimos, was ordered and sponsored by the Greek Orthodox Patriarch Aurelianos.

Despite the modernity of the Aftimos Market, which covers an area of 13 dunums, it contains many important monuments, such as the Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Mosque and four important churches such as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Church of John the Baptist, the German Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, and the Church of Alexander Nevsky Russian.

This market specializes in selling traditional and heritage goods for tourists.
