This dome is located south of the courtyard of the rock located in the heart of Al-Aqsa Mosque, between the Burhan al-Din minbar and the grammatical dome. It was built by the Ottoman governor Yusuf Agha in 1092 AH / 1681 AD.

It was rumored by mistake that it was called the Dome of Yusuf after the Prophet of God, Yusuf, peace be upon him, and this is probable. However, the presence of the Ayyubid inscription placed by Al-Nasir Salah al-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub on the wall of the city of Jerusalem in this dome is more likely. It was built with the aim of preserving this inscription, after the wall was rebuilt by the Ottomans. Yusuf al-Maqsood is the first name of Sultan Salah al-Din.

This dome is a square building with open sides, except for the southern side, which rests on the southern wall of the courtyard of the Dome of the Rock. And on this closed wall, the inscription was placed inside the dome, and above it was the mihrab. The building, which resembles a small chapel, is surmounted by a dome supported on four columns, which is shallow and surmounted by a crescent in the Ottoman style.
