One of the most important features of the city of Jerusalem is its walls that surround it from all directions, which were built by the Jebusite Arabs or those known as the Canaanites, who were the first to inhabit the city of Jerusalem, in order to fortify the city and protect it from The raids of the aggressors, because they had many advantages and attracted the attention of many.

After the construction of the walls of Jerusalem by the Jebusite Arabs and their entrenchment in them, the Pharaohs demolished them throughout the ages and eras, and when the Ayyubids entered the city of Jerusalem and conquered it by the leader Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt and restored again. and strengthening and digging trenches in it.

But then it was demolished by the Great King for fear of the city, if the Crusaders occupied it, to control these walls, and then it was completely rebuilt during the reign of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, as he cared about the city of Jerusalem and its great reconstruction Very.

The old town is surrounded by a huge wall built by the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent - who ruled the city between 1520 and 1566 AD - on the ruins of the old Roman wall.

The length of the wall is 3662 meters, while its height ranges between 11.6 and 12.2 meters.

There are 34 towers on the wall to watch over and defend the city, and it has eleven gates, seven of which are open: the Lions Gate, the Column Gate, the Watcher Gate, the New Gate, the Khalil Gate, the Mughrabi Gate, and the Prophet Gate. David. And four closed.
