Orthodox patriarchal library (Deir al-rum library)
The Orthodox patriarchal library is located in the neighborhood of Christians near the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to the north, built in 451 ad, named after the Greek Orthodox patriarch, who has resided in it since 1846.
The archives of the library belong to a group of libraries, including the library of the monastery of Mar Saba, the library of the monastery of the crucifixion and the collection of the Holy Sepulchre, and they were joined together in 1856 ad, and are considered one of the richest libraries in Jerusalem from the time of the value of the manuscripts they contain, as there are 2400 manuscripts, written in 11 languages, including Greek, Syriac and Arabic, and three quarters of these manuscripts are written in Greek, as there are 1800 Greek manuscripts, most of the manuscripts were written between the 5th-18th century AD, and archives held by the library: The covenant given by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to all monks and Christians, the age Covenant, a covenant attributed to MU'awiya ibn Abi Sufyan, may Allaah be pleased with him, and confirmation of the age covenant by Sultan Selim the Ottoman and other documents, a printed index was drawn up for her in 1883 and in 1897 the Greek documentary "A.Papadopoulos keramios " is a book in four volumes, and these documents cover a long period from the Byzantine era to the Ottoman era, and it contains an index of hundreds of Arabic and Turkish documents, and for the value of these manuscripts no one is allowed to access them except with the special permission of the patriarch or his assistant.
